Ionizer Air Purifiers Reviews
Outdoor pollution is very common and well known, but indoor pollution is also a serious problem. Everyone knows about car exhaust, factory smoke, burning trash, and other things that make outdoor pollution such an obvious problem, and as a result, most of the air purifiers on the market are designed to take care of these.
But indoor pollution, caused by dead skin, animal dander, coughing, sneezing, and being alive in general, is often neglected. According to Wikipedia, ionizing air purifiers are a simple way to defeat this nagging issue. By ionizing the air – that is, filling the air with millions of charged negative ions – dirt and dust in the air becomes negatively charged.
This means they’re attracted to the normally positively charged molecules (opposites attract), which makes them clump together and fall to the floor harmlessly. You’ll get them out next time you vacuum. So lets cover some basic ionizing air purifiers.
Ionizer Air Purifier Reviews
1. Sharper Image SI627 Ionic Breeze Plug-in Bathroom Air Purifier
The Ionic Breeze from Sharper Image is a simple, small ionizer that can fit in your bathroom, bedroom, or kitchen, and comes with a nifty little night light that’s quite handy and helps you see what you’re doing at night. Goes well with any room in your house and is intended to ionize an area of up to 75 feet.
That’s not bad for something small enough to barely be noticed and costs only 20 bucks, but it will only cover a very small room. The only real draw backs are that it’s a bit difficult to clean and can sometimes make noise which sounds similar to TV static. That’s not necessarily bad, since it just lets you know that its working, though the noise gets a bit louder after cleaning.
Pros:
-
Size: This ionizer is small enough to carry around in your pocket, and easy enough to unplug and replug anywhere in your house.
-
Price: You can find this item for around 20 to 25 dollars new, or less than that if it’s used. It’s occasionally given away free when purchasing other items. Extremely convenient for a very low cost!
Cons:
-
Area: Ionizes up to 75 square feet of room. This is probably enough for your bathroom, or a small bedroom, but there are models on the market that handle much more than this.
-
Sound: Many users have reported a crackling static-like sound that occurs sometimes, especially after cleaning. While this isn’t too loud, it’s considered an annoyance for some.
-
Cleaning: Speaking of which, cleaning isn’t exactly a breeze either. You may find yourself fiddling with this unit occasionally, but its a job that needs to be done.
2. Heaven Fresh 200 Ionic Air Purifier
Heaven Fresh brings us an air ionizer which can be plugged in or operated with a 12 volt battery, and can handle a room that’s 300 square feet. That’s seriously impressive for something that’s only 12 by 7 inches, and less than 3 pounds! What’s more is that there’s no moving parts in this ionizer, so it’s very unlikely to ever break down (unless you bumped it off your nightstand or something).
Cleaning this model is quiet easy as well: all you have to do is wipe down the collection plates, then stick them back in. This model generates millions of negative ions, which does the trick by causing dirt, dust, and germs to change polarity and fall to the ground harmlessly. The next time you sweep or vacuum, they’re out for good.
Pros:
-
Energy: This model allows you to plug it in or run it using a 12 volt battery. With an adapter, this can go in your car, making it an excellent car ionizer as well.
-
Sound: Because of no actual moving parts, this unit makes almost no noise at all. When you have to ask everyone to be quiet so you can hear if it’s making any noise, then you know noise isn’t a problem.
-
Area: Gets millions of negative electrons across a 300 square foot room. That’s large enough for most living rooms to be covered.
-
Price: For air ionizers, this one’s still cheap. It can run you around 70 to 80 dollars, depending on where you buy. While you can find something for less, this definitely isn’t a bad deal.
Cons:
-
Shock: Make sure you read the instructions carefully before operating, and make sure the unit is unplugged and turned off before cleaning. Some users found a live current, and were shocked to discover this.
3. Ionic Pro CA200B Compact Air Purifier
The Ionic Pro CA200B is a very compact little air purifier that operates with the touch of a button. No fancy settings or frills here, as those aren’t intended or needed. Press a button, clean the air, breath easier.
With only a “high” and “low” option, that’s the long and short of it. This model lets you know when it needs to be cleaned with a small indicator light on the outside of the unit. Cleaning only involves wiping down the collection plates.
Pros:
-
Area: Goes anywhere, and handles up to 250 square feet of room.
-
Design: This simple, sleek design fits right in with most of your bathroom and kitchen appliances today. It won’t look out of place, and even adds a slight futuristic feel to your table top ornaments.
Cons:
-
Shock: Once again, make sure the unit is turned off and unplugged before cleaning the unit, or this may turn out to be an electrifying experience.
Before you buy:
You’ll be told to not waste your time and money on air ionizers, but we (and scientific research) says differently. These aren’t the large, powerful air filters that cost hundreds of dollars, but then they aren’t meant to be. They’re ionizers, and clean the air differently.
What’s more, these are not mutually exclusive when shopping for air purification: it’s perfectly ok to have an ionizer – and – a HEPA air filter! This is especially true if your air filter does not come with an ionizer. Finally, since you can find ionizers small enough to fit in your hand and inexpensive enough to pick up anywhere, there’s no reason not to have one!
